Dana Alterie

Teaching Philosophy

"Students learn best by example. Hands-on learning opportunities provide optimal retention and learning. I encourage students to share their thoughts, beliefs, and opinions to better enable them to care for a diverse patient population in the clinical setting. This also helps them to better understand the multicultural diversity of healthcare in the world."

Education

  • BS - Nursing, Nouthern Illinois University
  • MA - Educational Leadership, Aurora University

Experience

Prior to teaching, Mrs. Alterie worked as a registered nurse in the acute health care setting. Her area of expertise was in cardiac care and medical-surgical nursing. Mrs. Alteries has been with Fox Valley Career Center since 1993.

Responsibilities

Mrs. Alterie prepares students to function independently in the role of Nursing Assistant in a healthcare facility. She introduces students to the healthcare field by offering internship opportunities while preparing students to provide basic hands-on healthcare skills.
